Dance Family Spotlight: Kira Rucquoi

1)How long have you been dancing?
“I have been setting the floor on fire since January with a break during the COVID closure.”✔

2) What got you initially started on your dance journey?
“I have always thought ballroom dancing was beautiful but assumed it was only for people who came from already strong dance backgrounds. My husband signed us up for an intro package and we were immediately hooked! He was not able to continue due to his work schedule but I couldn’t stop. I’m a ballroom junkie. I saw the pros on Dancing With The Stars and thought I could do better with a couple of months of training”

3) How has ballroom dancing impacted your life?
“I call the studio “my happy place”. Dancing has given me the opportunity to step far outside of my comfort zone and develop some sassy dance skills — but I have to say the the studio (other dancers, the instructors, etc.) have lent their support and encouragement throughout this process and I love every moment I am there. And I have bunions and blisters now haha”

4) What advice would you give to anyone who is interested in or are just starting on their dance journey?
“Do it, be fearless and have fun! And get cute shoes that fit well. Also, Hurry your behind up, you’re not getting any younger!”

5) Why did you decide to do your first showcase?
I honestly have no idea. As a non-dancer it seems crazy to me but I think it will be great fun and I can’t wait to see the other dancers. Besides, I’ve put in some work and I think I’m ready to debut my new moves. 🙂

6) How do you feel about your first showcase?
Happy, excited, and terrified…but mostly happy and excited! 🗺

Beat the Heat with our Summer Dance Retreat

Need a break from carrying watermelons? Tired of being put in the hot, stuffy corner? As the dog days of summer start to settle in over the Low Country, our IBDS dance family is taking a much needed reprieve up to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina and the refreshing waters of Lake Lure with our newest dance adventure.

Now some people may know of this place as a lovely spa and resort with beautiful mountain views…and while all of that is wonderful, we are going for a special reason. This resort was the one of the filming locations for one of the most famous dance movies, DIRTY DANCING! Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, the Historic 1927 Inn is surrounded by a beautiful mountain landscape right next to the wonderful Lake Lure where Johnny & Baby practiced their iconic lake lift!

A more casual retreat than our Big Band Weekends, we’ll be dancing on the beach lakeside with a bonfire & smores, relaxing on our very own private pontoon charter, movin’ and groovin’ like Swayze and Grey to the sweet tunes of the Radio Sparks Band in our own private ballroom where scenes from “Dirty Dancing” were filmed, and having the time of our life! 🎞

What better way to escape the everyday, and beat the Charleston heat, than with our IBDS dance family on a Summer Dance Retreat!
